Wireframes are visual guides that outline the basic structure and layout of a website’s pages without including detailed design elements. They serve as blueprints for the placement of elements like headers, images, text, buttons, and navigation across different pages, providing a clear skeleton of the website’s functionality and user flow. The wireframing process is essential in web design as it allows designers, developers, and stakeholders to focus on layout, content hierarchy, and user interactions before adding color, imagery, and style. By establishing the structure and visual priorities early on, wireframes help ensure that the website will be intuitive, accessible, and aligned with the overall objectives, making it easier to iterate on layout choices and address any issues at the foundational level.
A sitemap is a structured blueprint of a website’s content, showing the relationships between different pages and sections. It serves as a roadmap, guiding the design and development teams in organizing content hierarchies and defining user navigation flows. By mapping out this structure early in the web design process, sitemaps help ensure that all essential content is accounted for and organized logically. They help identify priorities, anticipate user journeys, and create a user-centered experience. This process is vital in web design because it prevents content gaps, supports SEO, and establishes a foundation for an intuitive and scalable website that meets both client goals and user needs.
A module is a section of a website. It might include a photo, some text, and a button.
A module point equals a number of hours that it may take to build a simple module. Features that require more modules or more time, are assigned additional module points.
Use the Advanced Menu to change how many hours a module point is worth.
A Layout is a collection of modules that can be re-used. An example would be a product page layout. Generally the products on a website will use a single layout across all products. This makes it easy for users to shop (not-to-mention it would be a rediculous amount of work to design every product page differently).
